  • South Atlantic Census Division includes Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida as displayed: Census Regions and Divisions Map
  • [1] Besides the manufacturing sector, "Other Industrial" includes the agricultural, construction, and mining industries, and coal used at coal mines or sold to their employees.
  • * = The unit of measure is less than 0.5 or percent change is less than 0.1%.
  • W = Withheld to avoid disclosure of individual company data.
  • N/A refers to data unavailable from referenced sources at time of last update.
  • [1] The Recipts of coal in the Electric Power Sector are incomplete for 1999 through 2002 owing to the sale of regulated, utility-owned electric generating stations to private, nonutility companies. The effects of those transfers--loss of reporting--were first noted in 1999 and became more significant both in 2000 and 2001. Deregulated operators were not legally bound to disclose operational details, including receipts and costs of fuel. Also, in 2001 the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's collection authority for Form 423 expired and utilities were temporarily under no legal obligation to report fuel receipts and costs.
  • [2] Total receipts include agricultural, mining, and transportation sectors.
  • [3] Average cost for Other Industrial Consumers is based on manufacturing sector data and does not include agricultural, mining, and transportation sectors, for which receipts are relatively small and no quantity or price data are collected.
  • Totals may not equal sum of components due to independent rounding.
  • Total Receipts and Total Average Costs are supplied from latest available published data, or are calculated from file data, and may not be derivable from supplied component data.
  • 1996 dollars are in chained dollars using gross domestic product price deflators.
  • Coal receipts include relatively small deliveries of imported coal, no more than 2 percent of Total.
