    Note:
  • Data are for electric generating plants with a total steam electric and combined name plate capacity of 50 megawatts or more.
  • In some cases coal shipments include coal mined in other States but processed and loaded in Virginia, as well as coal mined in and shipped from Virginia.
  • Total may differ slightly from those listed elsewhere in this website due to differences in data sources.
  • Totals may not equal sum of components due to independent rounding.
  • IMPORTANT! Due to electric restructuring, several generating plants operated by electric utilities were sold and reclassified as nonutility generating plants during 1998 and 1999. At the completion of the sale, these electric plants were no longer required to file receipt and cost data on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Form 423. It is important to note that the sale of plants has affected year-to-year comparisons of data at the State, Census Division, and National level.
