    August 15, 2001 Short Course: Coal and Energy in Southwest Virginia and Central Appalachia: Reserves, Production and Energy Planning

    The VCCER, along with the Central Appalachian Section of theSociety for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, Inc. is hosting a Short Course at the new Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia.

    April 23, 2001 Virginia Aggregates Association Mid-Year Meeting

    VCCER will be providing two speakers for this meeting, Dr. W. Lee Daniels of Virginia Tech and Mr. J. William Huber of Weir International Mining Consultants.

    The 2001 Mid-Year Meeting will be held in Richmond for the Virginia Aggregates Association.

    April 19, 2001 Short Course: Successful Reforestation of Surface-Mined Land with High Value Trees

    A short course was be co-sponsored by the Central Appalachian Section of the SME and the Virginia Center for Coal and Energy Research, through the support of a grant from the Virginia Division of Mines, Minerals and Energy and the U.S. Department of Energy in Lexington, Kentucky.

    June 9, 2000 Fuelcell Technology For Underground Vehicles

    The Virginia Center for Coal and Energy Research, with the support of a grant from the Virginia Division of Mines, Minerals and Energy and the U.S. Department of Energy, sponsored a presentation by Arnold R. Miller, Ph.D., as part of the Society of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers/Central Appalachian Section Annual Spring Meeting in Abingdon, Virginia.

    June 8, 2000 Short Course in Environmental Remediation

    The Virginia Center for Coal and Energy Research, in conjunction with the Central Appalachian Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, Inc. provided two speakers, Dr. Bob Kleinmann of the Department of Energy and Dr. Barry Stewart of Mississippi State University, for a short course, conducted prior to the CAS/SME Spring Meeting.

    Presented at the Martha Washington Hotel, Abingdon, Virginia.
